About this event
The Famine: More Than Potatoes
Join the West Suburban Irish and Professor Shereen Ilahi of North Central College in an informative and interesting presentation on the great Irish Famine of 1845.
Beyond the large numbers of dead and emigrants, what factors of Irish culture and religion, relations with England, and British colonial attitudes caused or exacerbated the Famine? What were the long term effects on Ireland, England and the Irish Diaspora? What are some of the personal stories of Irish descendants of the Famine?
Prepare for an in-depth discussion with Professor Ilahi and WSI members at 6:30pm on Tuesday, January 14, at Quigley's Irish Pub, 43 E Jefferson St, in downtown Naperville. This will be a live, in person presentation. No fee and reservation is required, but space is limited. See you then!
